While it is part of the limestone subsection of sedimentary rock it does not crumble or age easily while exposed to the elements. On the contrary, travertine is one of the hardiest of all limestone rocks and can therefore be used for nearly anything you might have planned.

There are a lot of landscaping companies that provide custom delivery of travertine stone to fit your needs. If that route fails, then go to a travertine stone wholesaler and then link up with a nearby stonemason (yes, they still exist) and work with them on your design. This will only really be necessary for artistic features, however, as for most practical uses (pavers, retaining walls, flooring, pillars, fencing, etc.) there are options to buy pre-made travertine. That is not to dissuade you, as you may want a special design, but always double check that what you want doesn't already exist because that could save you thousands!
